| Military city of Khubilai Khaan |
|
Settlers named “Khogshin Teel” ruin which was the military city, inspiring Khubilai Khaan’s fame in the territory of “Khogshin Teel”, Khairkhan Dulaan sum, Ovorkhangai aimag.
The archeologists Kh.Perlee, Ts.Khandsuren, Horiyo made some special researches on the ruin built in 1275. The city consisted of two parts; three walls built in the left side of the ‘Khogshin Teel” and “Dari Ekhiin Sum” in the front of the hill “Tsagaan” regarding the settlers view. We can assume that the ruin was for the sacrifice of Khubilai Khaan constructed by the Chinese architecture relating to the Kh.Perlee’s study. The first part of the ruin is the “Dari Ekhiin Sum” built on the “Tsagaan” hill in the north from the center. The other wall is in front of the “Ikh Modnii Am” along the peak of the hill. The third wall was built in the southern part of the second wall across two hill of “Baga Mod”. “Its stone wall was located outer side of water ditch. It was hard to imagine if water ditch was digged in such a steep location, hence, it was not filled with water but digged in depth”, Kh.Perlee noted. The fact that Khubilai Khaan constructed three walls of military city on the high mountain with wide areas consisting of a number of walls shows it was done in accordance with military prophylactic policy. From the script on the statue in the city, it is clear the city was impressive and attractive as ancient cities and castles and was named “Military city inspiring the fame”. However, that leftover of many constructions were disappeared without any signs is the evidence of being only temporary buildings, shelters and tents for pressing occasions. Any confirming information about destruction of Khubilai’s is not found up to now in archeological research. |
P.K.Kozlov, researcher of Russia, related the city to the war time for throne between Arigbokh, and Khubilai in the half of Middle Ages and translated the writing on a monument, found in, Chinese script into Russian next to the photograph of the ruin in 1926. In the monument writing, it was mentioned “head of right hand warriors Chan Wei left for North on April, in the year of fifteen of Chi Yuan period and established a fortress when arriving on October in ….” The name “Military city inspiring the fame” was given according to the agreements of warriors and established man-made lake in front of the city as written at the monument.
